Moraira

Moraira, an authentic fishing village

The beautiful fishing village of Moraira has over the years become a popular holiday destination among Dutch people. Where many Spanish seaside resorts have lost their authentic charm partly due to the excessive construction of hotels and high apartment complexes, Moraira chose to preserve the original atmosphere as much as possible.

Moraira is located around the marina where the fishing boats bring fresh fish every day. The fish is sold at the fish market to traders, restaurants and private individuals.

Tourists in Moraira stay mainly in large villa communities and smaller apartment complexes, where they mingle with the Spanish who have their summer houses there. A large advantage is that it is a bit smaller and cozier in Moraira than in large places like Calpe and to a lesser extent Dénia and Jávea.  A disadvantage is that in the winter months there is not much to do in Moraira compared to Jávea and Dénia, where a large majority of shops and restaurants are open year round.

Moraira beaches

For beach lovers, Moraira offers 4 beaches. The largest beach is called Platja de l’Ampolla, a sand beach frequented by families with (young) children. Between Jávea and Moraira ligt ook een mooi strand, Cala de Moraig aan de Cumbre del Sol, you will also find a nice beach, Cala de Moraig, which is situated at the Cumbre del Sol, a large urbanization on a mountain with fantastic views, where you will find many holiday homes and appartements. In this area you will also find an international school, where children from emigrated families are educated in English.
